Thumbs up or down?

I’m going with a mostly b&w layout for my site right now, and thought the research page could use a little pop of color and maybe some levity. I made some sketches in Paper to represent my study areas.

  1. I totally agree with Ryan, and I think you manage that space of professional and person beautifully with icons that are both illustrative of the work people will be seeing, and personalized—in that you sketched them! I am a big fan!

  2. One of the issues to consider in building an online portfolio is, how do you make the space feel professional, without being too cold and generic?

I think you’ve found a great way of addressing that problem with the hand-drawn images. They look great, and make your site feel like a space inhabited by an actual person, in the same way that art on the walls and rugs on the floor (etc) can make the difference between a house and a home.
