Doing Something with my Web Portfolio

My main goal in participating in DoOO is to improve my web portfolio. My courses are already all on my site, and I think the interface is pretty functional. However, until yesterday, the portfolio part of my website was lacking. All I had was an About page with a paragraph of text and a picture, and a static Research page with a few paragraphs of text. I did have hyperlinks to websites and docs, but it was very, very boring. Plus, not very detailed.

See? So. Boring. Gonna. Fall. Asleep.

My goal is to make this portfolio section of my website more complete, and much more engaging. So, with that in mind, here are the things I hope to accomplish:

– Replace my single, static, boring Research page with a dynamic, graphical Research page and a few subpages, again with pics and other graphics, to give more detail about my study areas.

– Add to my About page, so it is more dynamic, and so it provides clear, attractive links to my tumblr and this new blog. (Yeah, I’m really considering keeping this blog going after DoOO, but that will be the topic of another post.) Ideally, instead of just links, I’d like widgets or other plugins so my most recent entries can be shown, just like my tweets are already.

The first task will take much more work, mostly because I need to generate all that new content. I do have links, docs, and pictures, but choosing them, uploading them, and displaying them effectively is going to take a while.

The second task, as far as I can tell, is mostly dependent on finding and using the right plugin(s) and/or using CSS, which I don’t actually know how to use (yet). I will need DTLT help for this one, most likely.

Anyway, if you go to my site now, you’ll see a work in progress. The About page is still the same. The main Research page is currently completely empty. I’ve already moved all the content from that page to the subpages. Now, I need to add content, content, and more content. Knowing my preferences, I’ll likely tackle the main Research page and making it pretty first. We’ll see.
