The title says it all, really: a big honkin’ tree fell on our house. The tree was in our neighbor’s yard: a 60′ tall 3-4′ wide BIG FELLA. It fell across our kitchen and even pierced through our other neighbor’s living room.
The important facts:
No one was hurt. Thankfully, no one was in the kitchen, which is now destroyed. Ben was in his office and heard the crash. Miss D was in her room and “my room shaked but I was watching YouTube and wasn’t scared.”
Damage, in no particular order: kitchen destroyed, upstairs bedroom floor sagging because joists are damaged, bathroom tile bulging because wall was hit, boiler chimney knocked down, roof shingles missing, windows smashed, gutters destroyed, A/C unit dented and pushed off its footing… There’s probably more I can’t even think of right now.
We can’t live in the house for a while, since (1) no kitchen, (2) no bathroom, and (3) no heat or hot water.
THANKS, WINTER STORM RILEY!
Anyway… I figure I may as well take advantage of this to blog about the experience. If nothing else, it will be cathartic, and I should document the process anyway. After all, preservation is my job, and I now get to live an honest-to-goodness case study. So in the months to come, you can expect lots of blog posts detailing our adventures in home improvement.
